Alexander Wang For H&M: 5 Things You Need To Know

Say what you want, but the collaborations between H&M and famous fashion houses are in high demand from the moment they’re launched. Fashionistas everywhere flock to the nearest H&M stores (or, you know, browsers) to shop their favorite looks. Clothes are flying off the racks and general madness ensues… and it seems that this will be the case once again this fall.

Come November, we will be able to shop the latest designer collaboration: Alexander Wang X H&M.

Here are 5 things you need to know, while you wait to hit the “Add To Bag” button:

1. LAUNCH DATE: The collection will launch in select H&M stores and online at on November 6th. Before that, you can watch the launch event live from New York. The live streaming will start on October 16th at 8:15 PM EST on the H&M website.

2. EARLYBIRD: The first look from the collab was worn by Rihanna during New York Fashion Week. She sported leggings and a crop top, both with the word “Wang” written across them.

3. GET SPORTY: Unsurprisingly, the theme for the collection revolves around sports. With this collection, Alexander Wang treats us to a fine selection of sporty-luxe pieces that are as true to his design aesthetics as they are to H&M’s price points. The collection includes both womenswear and menswear and, judging by the lookbook, it will massively pump up our street creds. Scuba dresses, sweatshirts, leggings, gloves, beanies, sweatshirts, knee-high socks and parkas – they all speak of a credible and action-ready street-style collection.

4. THE WANG EFFECT: If you love his designs, you’ll want to show them off! Most of the pieces in the collection, from beanies to tops, gloves and socks all prominently display the designer’s name: WANG.

5. IT’S A FIRST: This is the first time H&M collaborates with an American designer. Alexander Wang has launched his namesake brand back in 2007. Ever since, his name has become synonymous with a cool, effortless and often sport-themed chicness. All the IT girls have flocked to wear his latest clothes and killer shoes, and for good reason: he knows what’s cool and he knows how to put his own signature spin on it.

So, what do you think about the latest H&M guest-designer collection?

Hats For Fall 2014 – What And How To Wear

What’s the no. 1 cold weather accessory you should never be without? If you answered hats, you’re right! Clearly, scarves and gloves don’t fall back behind, but there’s nothing like a chic and cozy hat (or beret!) to keep your head from freezing over during those early fall mornings.

fall hats 2014

So let’s see which are your best choices for fall. Ahead, three types of cold weather hats that successfully tick off both the coolness and the practical requirements on the list.

Hats Fall 2014: Beanies

What a no-brainer, right? Beanies are ridiculously easy to find and to incorporate in an outfit. You can pair them with dresses, jeans, heels or sneakers for an instant boost of coolness. Choosing a black beanie is always a safe bet, but only unusual colors will truly make you the center of attention. A neon beanie, for example, looks fantastic when paired with a dark or gray ensemble. Also, for a bad-ass look, pair any type of beanie with leather leggings and an oversized cardigan or blazer.

Hats Fall 2014: Structured Hats

From wide-brim hats to fedoras or boater hats, the options are pretty much endless. A simple, structured hat goes perfectly with high heels or with sneakers and it adds a feminine touch to any outfit. For an out-of-the-box look, wear a red fedora with a matching lipstick and keep the rest of the ensemble easy and simple. If you’re going for a more sophisticated look, a fine fedora, some kick-ass leather leggings, high heels and a faux fur should do the trick. Bonus points if the result is an all-black look. Hot!

Hats Fall 2014: Berets

Berets might have been MIA until now, but they are surely coming back in style! For the Fall/Winter 2014 season, numerous designers (Rodarte, Ermanno Scervino, Ralph Lauren) have sent berets down the runway and the result was stunning! Paired either with skirts of with trousers, we have to give it to them: berets definitely look modern and cool again. For a day-to-day look, pair your beret with a skirt and a sweater – so easy, right? Add a leather jacket to the mix to balance out the look and you should be good to go. Paris, here we cooome!

5 Tips to Help You Photograph Fashion Your Way

Just talking about fashion isn’t enough these days,  not when we’re dealing with a highly visual culture. Whether you’re a professional blogger or an amateur that loves to share their inspired outfits with the world, uploading blurry, haphazard photos to your website or blog isn’t going to cut it. I am by no means a professional, and I am always super appreciative when professionals share their style savvy photography tips. A great shot is more than just getting the light right, it’s also about determining whether or not the outfit you’re wearing is actually photograph friendly. Sometimes, we’ll look at an outfit on the hanger, or in a mirror and it looks great to us, but in a photograph, it’s not conveying the image we want to it to. So as long as you’re prepared for some trial and error, and you don’t mind being your own guinea pig, I’ve got a few tips that will help you create fabulous style photos.

1) Equipment

Before you get your outfit ironed out, you’ve got to sort out what you need! You can go out and purchase the most expensive camera possible, but a great photo is not going to take itself. If you’re a burgeoning amateur photographer, you may want to go out and spend some money on a DSLR. But for the rest of us who want to focus on the subject our photos, the fashion, a really great point-and-shoot digital camera will do, and a tripod. An iPhone selfie is great in a pinch, but you’re not going to pick up on all the detailing in your outfit.

2) Go Off the Beaten Path

Whether you’re blogging for your own enjoyment or you’ve got a gig working for someone else, your job is to keep your audience interested. There are millions of photos out there of fashionistas strutting their stuff down the street, and that’s all well and relevant, but mix it up a little. Your photos shouldn’t just be an expression of what you’re wearing, they should express your art, so find a creative canvas to work with.

3) Work Your Best Angle

Look, we all have a good side, and a not so good side, well, unless you’re a supermodel and then we dare you to find a bad side! For the normal folks out there, there will always be something we don’t like about ourselves. Remember, you’re trying to accentuate the best part of your outfit, so find funky ways to pose, even if you have to get a little uncomfortable!

4) Accentuate Movement

We move in clothes, right? Shots that show movement usually garner the most attention. Find somewhere to prop your camera, press the timer, and practice doing shots that involve movement. Walk down stairs, twirl, dance, just move, and worry about what it looks like in your small screen later, that’s what photoshop is for! As long as it’s not so blurry that you can’t see detailing in the outfit, you’ve just created one fabulous shot!

5) The Devil’s in the Details

Yes, the whole piece is important, but not as important as the detailing. Whether you’re wearing a sensual slip dress or  a ga-ga worthy pair of funky wedges, there will be aspects of the piece that make it unique, so make sure to take close up photos of these details!

The Teenage Fashion Evolution

The coolest thing about fashion is how often it changes. Everything from fits to colors, designs and fabrics have changed throughout the evolution of fashion and actually make up exactly what we enjoy today within our wardrobe. The new trends today that we indulge in today are actually blasts from the pasts of style and trends. Let’s check out the last century of fashion and see what is still walking down the runways today, and what definitely, and thankfully stayed in that era.skirt fashion

The Big Gowns of the 1900’s

If you’re trying to get a feel for what the 1900’s fashion looked like, think of the Titanic movie and the people who held first class tickets because it’s a pretty close replica of the style that was enjoyed during the 1900’s. After all, the Titanic did take voyage to the sea during the 1900’s. It was all various clothing changes throughout the day with morning and afternoon dresses for the women, and tailored suits for the men. These looks were often topped with a big hat. The 1900’s style was extremely elegant and emphasized the not-so-natural shape and curve of a woman’s waist, which was created from a blood-cutting-off tight corset.

Trend of Today: Big floppy hats.

Not So Tight in the 1920’s

The 1920’s fashion still indulged in the big, stunning gowns but the corset trend slightly untied as the emphasis was placed on softer lines and curves of the body, instead of a extremely tight waist as the previous era enjoyed. The dresses did begin to indulge in a bit of color during this era as well. It’s definitely an era where personality was beginning to make an appearance throughout one’s individual fashion choices.  It’s also the era of flapper fashion which was highly inspired from Coco Chanel encouraging fringe dresses and feather hair pieces, however this style wasn’t something you’d seen in the streets, but rather something you’d enjoy in a venue up on stage.1920s fashion

Trend of Today: Fringe dresses for the club.

Getting a Little Sexy in the 1930’s

Money became scarce for many in the 1930’s which explains the lack of formality within the wardrobes of this era. Despite the looser fit and less formal attire, the 1930’s style definitely got a little more sexy. Less money, less fabric? Who knows. Women often indulged in sleeveless dresses with a fur (faux for the less wealthy) shawl slung over their shoulders. Hats became less eccentric, and rather minimalistic while the clothing style trends became a little more personalized as colors were being explored even more so, and shorter lengths were being enjoyed. Hello, ladies calves and some collarbone cleavage! That’s as scandalous as it truly got within the 30’s style trends. CoCo Chanel continued to thrive and was a popular indulgence amongst famous actresses such as Jean Harlow and Ginger Rogers who are known for their fashion portraits.1920s fashion

Trend of Today: Fake Fur is currently super haute!

A Masculine Appearance of the 1940’s

older generation fashionWith the war current, fashion trends took a turn towards less emphasis and rather generic styles as a result of several stores closing down and a lack of income. Even CoCo Chanel shut down over the war years. Despite hats being big and bold in the previous eras, it was in the 40’s that they truly became a vital part of fashion. After all, with a lack of shopping, you had to make a statement somehow, right? People indulged in hats the same way we currently indulge in cell phones. The women and men of the 1940’s never left home without a hat. The tightened waist was fairly absent during this time, and if you want to take a movie reference to resemble this fashion era, think Armageddon starring Ben Affleck. Skirts were longer and suit jackets were common amongst females. You can even say that the 40’s were a rather masculine era for clothing in comparison to the priors so people took to other ways to accentuate their femininity. This is when Hollywood starlet, Bette Davis was haute for lipstick and makeup quickly became an indulgence of fashion.

1940s fashion

Trend Of Today: Makeup is our fashion.

The Marilyn Monroe and Aubrey Hepburn of the 1950’s

Style began to indulge in showing the sexier side of women during the 1950’s as the emphasis of clothing was often placed on an hourglass figure. Both Marilyn Monroe and Aubrey Hepburn have been known for pushing the style limits towards a more feminine appeal. Skirts began to bare some legs, shoulders were wide and were even shown off as strapless dresses entered the fashion industry. Things definitely began to heat up in the fashion kitchen during the 50’s.1950s fashion

Trend of Today: Poofy skirts, waist belts, bikinis, high heels and of course, Marilyn Monroe’s “classic” makeup look with cat eyeliner, big lashes and red lipstick.

A Wild Side in the 1960’s

The 60’s is when fashion trends truly took advantage of what clothing can bring to the world and one’s individual style. It also got a little more riskay! Wild prints and bright colors were beginning to enter the boutiques, and although It was all about Go-Go boots, boxy dresses, bikinis (although still extremely covered up from what we wear today), mimi skirts, false lashes and bell bottom jeans, Marilyn Monroe continued to thrive with her sexy style throughout the 60’s.

Trend of Today: Flared denim, and eccentric prints.

That 70’s Show of 1970’s

Hello, disco! Flare jeans, buttoned down shirts on the men that were extremely unbuttoned,  and fish in clear platforms were not a rare sight within the fashion industry during the 70’s. This is also an era known for drugs… And well, it’s safe to assume the designers indulged because this is one era that has never successfully been brought back into the fashion industry. Big flare jeans tried to make a comeback in 2000’s and failed miserably, as did the platforms during the Spice Girl days of the millennium as well. However, the maxi dresses and high waists have been thriving in the past couple of seasons so maybe the 70s did bring something other than disastrous to the fashion scene after all. Barbara Streisand, Blondie and Twiggy are probably stoked that their era of eccentric 70’s swag did something right.70s fashion

Trend of Today: Maxi dresses and high waists.

Neons of the 1980’s

The 80’s get a little less disco a little more neon. It’s definitely one of the most fun fashion eras as it was the era of bright neons and wild prints, mini skirts and leggings, leg warmers and shoulder pads. Madonna and Cher are the totally trendy styles of the 80’s and although the fashion trends have made a comeback, their careers… Not so much.1980s fashion

Trend of Today: Neons and leggings have been a hit for a couple of years lately.

Thing Get a Little Grungy in the 1990’s

The 90’s look was fairly similar to the 80’s in regards to neon colors, but it’s often referred to a grungier version of it. Clothes were much looser and didn’t have any form at all, really. Males wore rock tees and tight jeans (And long hair in a ponytail!), and females indulged in slip dresses that were literally slipped on over a tee. Oh, you can’t forget about the trend of black spandex shorts with a neon stripe down the side. That’s right! This era brought the bicycle shorts to the trending scene. Why, oh why!

90s fashion

Trend of Today: Vintage rock tees and denim.

A Combo in the 2000’s

The 2000’s fashion has truly been an indulgence in a variety of trends that have been seen throughout the evolution of the 20th century. Everything from 90 flare jeans to  50’s peplums that also came back in the 80’s have made a statement during the 200’s, and even 80’s neons and the big hats of the 1900’s are still walking down the runways. The only fashion era that hasn’t been implemented into today’s trends is the 70s, and there’s nothing to be upset about. Well, that is unless you count Lady Gaga… Who is the pure definition of the 70’s fashion on crack.2010 fashion

Now remember ladies, this is only a small portion of the evolution of fashion. Inspirations for today’s fashion and the evolution of fashion all together definitely extends well past the 1900’s and right into the caveman days. However, the 20th century definitely plays a vital part in the style that we currently rock down our own personal runways, the sidewalks of the street. In fact, today’s fashion offers a bit of style from all the eras. The 2000’s style trends will certainly be known for taking a walk down the path of fashion evolution. The history from the past decades and the celebrities from those eras have essentially played a vital part in the fashion that we enjoy today

With Red Gown and Red Lipstick Rihanna Set Temperatures Soaring at Grammy Awards 2013

Rihanna looked sizzling and set the temperatures soaring as she walked the Grammys 2013 red carpet in a red hot see through dress with bold red lips to match. Apparently the sexy get up was part of the plan to impress her current date and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. And we can safely assume that impressed he was. Incidentally, it appears that Chris Brown might be on his way to become ‘current boyfriend’ and much more soon.

They Walked in Separately, But Sat Together

Chris and Rihanna walked the Grammys red carpet separately, but sat together, practically wrapped in each other. Chris’ sharp white suit provided a great contrast to Rihanna’s red dress and the couple looked good together. According to our sources, Rihanna was always planning to sit with Chris and they had decided to spend the whole night in each other’s company. Maybe that’s why both of them look so happy in this picture together.

Doesn’t RiRi look relaxed and oh-so-comfortable in Chris’ company? Perhaps this is what true love looks like.

Rihanna Wows with her Grammy Performance

Rihanna’s stage performance of her new single ‘Stay’ was well received and Chris dutifully gave her a standing ovation at the end. For her performance, Rihanna was dressed in a sexy black Azzedine Alaia dress, which she accessorized with thin gold bangles and a sparkling neckpiece. What caught everyone’s attention though, was a bit of sparkle witnessed in the form of a simple diamond ring on her left hand.

Could They Be Engaged?

The glimpse of the diamond ring sent fans into a tizzy and Twitter was flooded with buzz about Chris and Rihanna being engaged already. Well at the moment there is no official word on this, but yes, it does appear that the duo are definitely back together. They spent rest of the night together hitting a private party at a Hollywood Club, later that night.

Rihanna won the honor for her video We Found Love in the Best Short Form Music Video category. Chris however did not win any award on Music’s biggest night, but that did not stop him from celebrating his ‘girls’ win. Attaboy Chris!

Everything Forgiven and Forgotten

Rihanna fans and everyone else for that matter cannot forget the events of around four years ago when Chris brutally attacked his then girlfriend Rihanna, causing her to break up and file a case against him. Apparently everything is forgiven and forgotten now. It is indeed true that love can make you do crazy things.

Are you happy with Rihanna and Chris getting back together?

Naomi Watts Gets a ‘Summery’ Look for Vogue Australia Cover February 2013

After she knocked you off with a serious power packed performance in The Impossible, Naomi Watts is all set to inspire softer emotions in your heart with her ‘summery’ look as the cover girl of Vogue Australia for February 2013.

Against a backdrop of what looks like a million colorful flowers, Naomi looks straight at you in a sideways profile and with her trademark parted lip smile and you will be forgiven for falling in love all over again.

After all, it does seem that spring and summer are right outside. (But we do know the ‘cold’ reality that spring is still a good 5 months away, don’t we?)

Naomi Watts

Naomi’s Look

Naomi’s look was put together by stylist Stevie Dance. The dark green gown from Gucci’s 2013 runway collection with its frilly details is just perfect for the look. For, where there are flowers, can greenery be behind?  Note the minimalist look with no accessories save the bracelet on one arm. It was genius of course to have a back combed hair style, which ensures that there are no distractions when you gaze at Naomi’s face. And what a face..porcelain skin, perfect features!

Naomi Reveals All

Naomi spilled the beans about who she is in real life. And it appears she is just like any of us, wanting to drop her kids to school and wanting to enjoy relaxing time with family. But Naomi does acknowledge that sometimes it is just not possible given the sudden emergence of 10-15 photographers.

Naomi Watts

For all the fashion efforts that have gone into her Vogue cover look, (the dress above has been designed by Nina Ricci. Note the effortless makeup), Naomi admits that in real life, she is happy to step out sans makeup and with messy hair. The media may call her old and tired, and she is fine with that. Now that is refreshing streak of honesty, rarely seen in celebrities.

Naomi – the Pastel Princess

Naomi rounded off her looks for the cover shoot in two gorgeous pastel ensembles- one a lilac ball gown in which she posed sitting down with a bunch of flowers. If earlier summer was outside, now it will appear that summer is inside your home, thanks to Naomi.

Naomi Watts

The second look was a dull pastel skirt and top ensemble. The fitted turtle neck top contrasted with the ballooned out pleated skirt and the floral background finished the look perfectly.

Naomi Watts

Which of Naomi’s looks is your favorite? And do you think she will play the character of Princess Diana with aplomb in her forthcoming movie?

Emma Stone Reveals her Secrets in Glamour UK’s February 2013 Issue

Gorgeous girl Emma Stone smiles at you from the cover of the latest issue of Glamour UK.  One of the youngest actresses around (she is just 24), Emma looks radiant and youthful and oh-so-adorable.

Emma Stone

Even if you are not a big Emma fan, the fact that she is baring the secrets of ‘those sex scenes with Ryan Gosling’ will surely prompt you to pick up a copy. Much appreciated for her performance in Gangster Squad, the chemistry between Emma and Ryan was sizzling and that’s understating it.

Emma’s Cover Look

For the cover photo, Emma posed in a floral Dolce and Gabbana outfit. The brightness of the colors, the floral motif and the short length accentuated her school girl charm. And it is really no surprise why Miss Stone is one of the most popular and well loved young actresses of today.  The look was ‘topped off’ with her golden wavy hair falling ‘carelessly’ about her shoulders. The style quotient of the overall look climbed several notches higher with the Louboutin sling back heels in cream color. The slim gold bangles added to the look.

But Have We Seen this Look Before?

Though Glamour UK would like us to believe that this is a fresh photo shoot, there is evidence to the contrary. The May 2011 issue of Glamour US had Emma in the cover in a suspiciously similar outfit.  Time to cut out euphemisms…it was the same outfit. Check it out for yourself.

It is not unusual for magazines to use the same photos for different editions. And of course to give credit to the magazine, they have not actually used the same photo. So all’s well.

Sexy Look Within

While we talked of a school girl look on the cover, Emma’s photo inside the magazine has a very different, sexy look. The Viktor & Rolf white dress that exposes one shoulder and the messy hair updo perhaps contribute to this effect.

Emma Opens Up

In the feature, Emma reveals that she is just like anyone of us and is not always happy with her body. But she says she has learned to take it in her stride. Something many of us should learn from her.

She confesses about her paranoia of the paparazzi, who, according to her are hiding everywhere in LA. Our sympathies are with her, but that is price you pay for your popularity dear girl.

Is Emma stone your favorite celebrity?
