London 2012 set some exceptional records and some even more exceptional fashion trends. While trainers dominated the fashion of the feet, hairstyles literally stayed on top. From short crops to streaks and highlights, the athletes ensured that we stayed in tune with what they make of fashion. And to say the least – some of them did really well.
Here is a look at the latest hair style trends that debuted in the Olympics but are sure to stay on the top of our minds for a very long time.
Louis Smith
If we have to mention the trendiest hairstyle at London 2012, we cannot but mention Louis Smith. Shaved short on the sides and a crop on the top, his hair style looked incredible adding charisma to his face. It was probably convenient too for the gymnast as his routine was in no danger from flying locks. Kudos to Smith for bringing forth the perfect amalgamation of man and boy with this brilliant hairstyle.
Sanya Richard Ross
Sanya Richard Ross, American runner, sported long locks with a partial wave weave in her hair with blonde highlights that looked simply stunning on her. While not an absolutely new trend, the highlight and the weave pattern are sure to be adopted by millions.
Marta Pihan-Kulesza
Glitter on your hair? Well, why not! Marta Pihan-Kulesza from Poland showed the world how it could be done. One of the most glamorous of all hairdos in the Olympics, the bright red braids looked as hot as the gymnast herself. Maybe we would like to tone down on the glitter on the streets or the club, but this is one hairstyle that we are definitely going to see more of.
Carmelita Jeter
The pixie cut is back! Or did it ever leave us? Celebrities from across the globe have sported this hairstyle at one time or another including our very own Victoria Beckham. Champion American runner Carmelita Jeter showed us once again how cool the pixie cut can look. It’s definitely a style trend that is going to continue for ages and not just years.
Laura Trott
As far as simple goes, the gold medal in addition to the ones already won, goes to British champion cyclist Laura Trott for her simple braids. The pleasant look simply goes on to touch the heart in a big way. Simple, smart, casual and beautiful, braids are sure to make a comeback this season. There is nothing that we like better than simplicity and timelessness.
The year 2012 has seen some of the most vibrant shades on the fashion ramp. So what if some of it finds its way to the hair? Sporting a vibrant shade of blue, American sprinter Kellie Wells does it better than Katy Perry and Rihanna. Coloured streaks were what we were looking for and we believe we have found some.
Would we see some of the best hairstyles out of the Olympics and into the streets? We surely hope so. After all, a good hair day is a beautiful day!
