With all the speculation and the regular tweets, it did not come much of a surprise when the most popular girl band came together once more to make us all dance to their beat in the Olympic Closing Ceremony. The Spice Girls had once ruled the planet, and they ruled again on the promising night of August 12 when once again the world focused on them.
Arriving in glittering black cabs, atop them actually and not inside, the Spice Girls once again stormed into our hearts. Definitely older, perhaps wiser, and stylish as ever, the Spice Girls showed the world that they were still as hot as ever if not more. As they performed to their superhit tracks – Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life, we could not help wondering what could have been better than this. The newspaper themed floor on which they embarked upon to perform did great justice to them.
An epitome of style and fashion, the Spice Girls lived up to the expectations in the costumes that they wore – edgy and power-packed.
Victoria Beckham aka Posh Spice, fashionista and designer, looked as posh as ever in a small black number with a train of ruffles billowing behind her. Designed by Giles Deacon, the dress brought out the classy Victoria and was the perfect costumer that the singer-turned-fashion-designer could have worn as she returned to the stage again.
Geri Halliwell, aka, Ginger Spice wore a red strapless design by Suzanne Neville with gold boots and a beautiful tiara. We loved the how the colours of the Union Jack found a place into the bustle of the dress. Red, spicy and oh so very gingery!
Emma Bunton, aka, Baby Spice wore a Maggie Cooke pink creation that made her look really good. There was nothing baby about the dress with the neckline plunging deep. The sparkling shoulder pads were a different matter altogether and we wondered if there could have been more similar additions to the dress? Of course the look worked, but we did expect a little more from the baby of Spice.
Melanie Chrisholm aka Mel C aka Sporty Spice stayed true to herself as she wore a fitted jumpsuit with flares at the bottom. A vision in white, the almost retro look reminded us of times gone by when bell bottoms were a rage. But Sporty Spice being sporty as ever, brought us back to the current times with her chic metallic sneakers that have set the fashion scene on fire.
The brilliant shiny cat suit designed by Lebanese Zuhair Murad looked every bit a part of Melanie Brown aka Mel B aka Scary Spice. The skin tight suit was power personified but really not that scary. The silver stilettos completed her look to perfection. Only wish, there could have been a bit more of Scary Spice from the past.
As they set the stage on fire with their biggest hits, we did wanna spice up our lives once again. Viva Forever!
