Miss Universe is one of the most coveted beauty pageants any woman may ever desire to be even just a part of. Winning it is absolute dream come true for the girl who works so hard for months and years to mold her for the title.
The 20 year old sophomore from the Boston University and a self-professed ‘cellist nerd’, Olivia Culpo couldn’t believe her own ears when she heard her name being called as the Miss Universe 2012.
She was selected as the most beautiful woman of the year 2012 over a whopping number of other outstandingly beautiful participants, 88 to be precise, who had gathered for the contest in the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino situated in the Entertainment Capital of the World, Las Vegas.
The former Miss Universe Leila Lopes from Angola conferred the prestigious award to Olivia by putting the glittering crown on her head.
The delicate beauty with a charming smile brought the glory back to her country after a drought of 15 long years. Brought up in the Rhode Island, Olivia has music in her blood as both of her parents, Susan and Peter Culpo, are professional musicians.
Born on 8th May 1992, Olivia is the middle one of the five children of Culpo family and is described as the ‘nerdiest’ of the five by her father. Even her brother recalls that she was chubby and ‘kinda weird’ when she was small. Who would have believed that this chubby and weird girl will become Miss Universe? But fate has its own ways to surprise us!
Olivia’s ‘beautiful’ journey began with the Miss Rhode Island title. She won the contest in 2011. The dress she wore for that contest was rented for just 20 dollars. But this win was enough for the caterpillar to blossom into a beautiful butterfly. Her second achievement came in the form of winning the Miss USA title in June the very next year. She became the very first Miss USA contest winner from the Rhode Island.
Olivia is a versatile person with multiple interests. She is a St Mary Academy graduate and a member of the National Honor Society. She even went to Milano, Italy to take part in trips for foreign language.
She is a terrific cellist too. She began playing the musical instrument cello when she was in her second grade. She has participated in many orchestras especially in the Carnegie Hall, the Boston City Hall and even in England.
19 December was Olivia’s day all the way. She actually stumbled a little while walking during the evening gown competition. She recovered gracefully and regained her poise quickly. Despite the fact, she won the hearts of the judges and went on to bag the Miss Universe crown.
Olivia is an example of the power of desire and self-belief. She has proved to the world what even a simple girl from a modest background can achieve through desire and dedication. Her success story is a glowing example and inspiration to many girls who want to make it big in their lives but lack the self-belief.
